Springfield College Receives $2.4 Million Dollar Gift From Alumni Sherry Kopko Ruth '74 and Bill Ruth '74
Springfield, MA (08/07/2023) — Springfield College is proud to announce a significant philanthropic contribution of $2.41 million from alumni Sherry Kopko Ruth '74 and Bill Ruth '74, whose gift promises to propel The College's mission to even greater heights.
"The best 'personal' benefit that Springfield College provided for us, is that we found each other the second day of freshman week - and that chance meeting has given us a wonderful 53 years together, both personally and professionally. We both feel that we owe our satisfaction and success as professionals as well as the quality of the life we've been able to live together at Springfield College- where a chance meeting changed our lives for the better forever," said the couple.
The $2.41 million gift reinforces Springfield College's commitment to providing a transformative educational experience to its students. Springfield College has long been recognized for its unwavering dedication to fostering social responsibility and creating leaders who are not only accomplished in their fields but also driven by empathy and service.

"At their core, Bill and Sherry are true educators who have given their lives to the betterment of others. The Ruth's contribution stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of giving and philanthropy, and reinforces the critical role that private support plays in the growth and success of higher education institutions like Springfield College.
"The education and positive experiences I had at Springfield College have transcended every aspect of my life to make it a happy and fulfilling one. I will be forever grateful for that," added Bill Ruth.
The Ruth's have long been advocates for the Springfield College experience since their time as student-athletes, as both were All-America swimmers during their time on Alden Street. Sherry and Bill would go on to have decorated careers as teachers and coaches, combining for nine Who's Who of American Teachers and Educators recognitions while mentoring countless students and athletes. They served their community as the Directors of Pennsylvania's Special Olympics Track & Field Programs and channeled their passion for fitness and wellness as Bill would develop into a world-class Ironman and Sherry would compete as an elite bodybuilder and triathlete. The couple currently reside in Colorado after spending the previous 30-plus years as educators in Pennsylvania.
